As the temperature drops and the leaves fall, the Academy reopens for a new term and classes begin. October’s approach has also brought with it not just a change in weather, but a rise in supernatural phenomena around the school and the neighbouring town of Soleil, as spirits rise in activity and excitement in anticipation for Halloween.


A. ELEMENTAL BLESSING
The more stressful things that have happened over the last few months have brought some new, strange visitors to Daybreak, possibly by the request of the higher-ups. As students adjust to their new classwork and routines, they may see blue and purple spirits fly through the halls and over the grounds of the Academy. The more avian-esque purple ones gather in places with strong winds and open air when at rest; the blue ones collect in the various fountains and ponds when not hopping through the Academy’s halls, happy to swim around (and alarm passerby who have never seen them before).

Though they’re capable of speech, and some might be particularly chatty, they tend to leave conversations for after use of their powers. Whether it’s a harsh breeze that blows away mental cobwebs or a soothing rain that melts away aches and pains, these spirits seem to know exactly what anyone encountering them needs to spend the rest of the day refreshed and strengthened for their trials ahead.

B. PUMPKIN PREPARATIONS
What’s a Halloween celebration without pumpkins to carve? No celebration at all, of course. But Halloween is only one night, and one does not simply learn to carve pumpkins in the space of one night. In acknowledgement of the fact that not everyone shares the same cultural traditions, pumpkin carving classes will be held regularly from the start of October to the end - students and staff alike are free to come along and practice their skills for the upcoming festival, or simply vandalise these poor pumpkins and make a mess. Those who are more culinarily inclined can reap the efforts of their fellow carvers and be taught how to use a treasure trove of seeds and flesh to be used in all sorts of recipes.

If you’d like to do something more difficult and traditional, a fine selection of turnips - and notable examples - are available. Though they might turn out looking less cute and more ...horrifying. But maybe that’s what you like? Nobody will judge you.

C. COSTUME CRAFTING
In preparation for Halloween, the secondhand market on the Academy’s grounds has set up shop once more. Throwing its metaphorical doors open to anyone who wants a wide range of reasonably priced attire, they’ve gone into special storage to pull out costumes, costume weapons, and other accessories fit for a Halloween celebration...some of them with strange or odd minor magics still lingering around them, courtesy of their last owner.
Everything is labeled appropriately, but those throwing on clothing with reckless abandon may find themselves victim of some very eye-catching special effects when they least expect it.

What an unnecessary fuss.

[ "Master Hibiki. Your soufflé à la citrouille."

Inclining his head, a solemn-faced man in a full-body goat costume slides a plate in front of Hibiki as she sits just outside the classroom (his bell jangles with the motion). The pair have a decent view into the classroom, Hibiki having erected her own tea table for use alongside her...literal, actual throne.

Hibiki, sniffing, picks up her teacup. ]

Honestly. I'd thought this an opportunity to judge the students' aptitude, but was there a point to observing in person, I wonder.....

[ A glob of pumpkin goes whizzing out the open doorway, propelled at supernatural speeds. With a wave of his hoof, the goat butler flips his tea tray up telekinetically, shielding Hibiki from her gloppy orange fate. The pumpkin guts glance off - and bounce somewhere else.

[ Costume Crafting ]

Secondhand glamour doesn't suit you.

[ A hand is being extended to any mademoiselle sorting through the costumes. It belongs to a person who has decided to try on a prince costume -

no, wait, that outfit is custom tailored and made of velour. This person just up and decided to leave the house dressed like a prince this morning. Ah well!

The Prince smiles. The air is suddenly alight with sparkles...yet no magic can be sensed. ]

A. do you need some help with that, sir

[ A small figure is dragging along what looks like a steamer trunk on wheels that far outstrips him in size. Though he doesn't seem to be having any trouble with it, it does look sort of unwieldy...and it seems to be clanking a lot, like it's got a lot of metal objects in it.

He's quick to apologise, soft-voiced, if he gets in anyone's way as he does so. He's taking the long way round to avoid this sort of thing, after all. ]

I'll be out of your way in just a moment. Please excuse me.

B. pumpkin carving

[ The strange, masked figure is wielding a knife like he would a sword. With a series of quick, efficient movements that are almost too fast for the eye to follow, he's carving away at it busily.

What he's making isn't quite clear, though, apart from 'slashing an awful lot'...

He doesn't appear to be making a lot of mess, though. That's good, possibly.

Just overlook the fact he's so small he has to stand on one of the tables to do this properly. The pumpkin is about the same size as him, actually... ]

[Okay, you know who's never gotten to carve a pumpkin before? This girl.

Do you know who's really having a blast trying it out now? Momo, who's happily carving away at a pumpkin, humming to herself all the while. She's a little messy with it, but it's not like this is the cleanest task anyway.

And hey, at least she's having fun, right?]

Costume Crafting
[Momo... actually has no idea what she wants to dress up as for Halloween. But something so silly and small as that isn't stopping her from browsing the costumes and accessories in the secondhand market with a curious delight. It's so new and exciting for her! She's very intently looking for something that jumps out at her that maybe she can build the rest of her costume around...

... Of course to most people, that just means she's taking a really long time at this particular spot.]

B1 Pumpkin Maiming

[He supposes it's good practice, to learn how to skillfully use a bladed weapon. But in practice, it's clear all he's doing is maiming the poor pumpkin, pieces flying off with surprising force, claws scratching deep grooves on the surface - and bending the cheap saw-tooth knife that was being used]

Oh blast it!

[Flicker huffs, tail twitching as he then takes a dagger from his hip to work on a second pumpkin, stabbing into it with a look of concentration]

B2 Waste not, want not.

[Given the amount of pulp and seeds left from craving, it seem to be such a waste to toss it all. The squire pops a seed, chewing thoughtfully, then he takes a handful, blowing a small blast of fire over it, popping those into his mouth. Then he leaves, returning with salt, starting to salt and roast the growing pile of pumpkin seeds]

Oh Hello! Want some? They're going to a little hot.

[Costumes everywhere! This looks fun, everyone seems to be having a good time trying on disguises. But... he's clearly fretting as he pulls out a book about as thick as a dictionary, flipping through it]

According to the Code of Dragon Chivalry number 511 strictly forbids Dragons from doing Impressions, especially not that of a knight.... I suppose that answers that question.

Pumpkin Preparations

Pharos had experience Halloween before, but he'd never done much with it. Apparently he'd managed to escape from and effectively hide from his parents three years in a young basically right after he could walk, so they didn't really fancy trying it again when he's got more intention and instead they just bought him candy he liked and stay home with him and sometimes had a party or something. He didn't really mind; he didn't have friends to go trick or treating with, so it amounted to much of the same thing.

But he's here at school and it seems like everyone else is doing it, so he might as well try, right? Which is how Pharos has acquired a pumpkin and a knife that was probably meant for the high schoolers who know how to use actual knives and not the eight year old who probably has never touched one this large before. Someone stop him before he hurts himself?

Elemental Blessing
[Hazel has been on edge since she arrived on campus. She was here to help prevent Nightfall, but that didn't mean she trusted everyone here, oh no. She trusted them about as much as she trusted anyone--which was to say None of the Above. It made her hyper alert as she walked around campus, keeping her eyes out for the other students or staff walking by, on hand never far from the concealing gun in the holster in her blazer.

Until she passed under a tree and a sudden breeze curled around her face, fluttering her hair behind her. Suddenly, everything felt calmer. The world around her less threatening. The sky was blue and the trees were shades of fire. She blinked, not sure where the sudden change came from, before looking up into the tree to see two purple spirits nestling on one of the branches together.]

They did something to me.

[Someone please step in before she maybe shoots at the spirits?]


Pumpkin Preparations
[She had never touched a pumpkin in her life, and had come across the class under the impression the carving was something more...aggressive. If they were carving them, then they had to be using them for some rune-related purpose, correct?

Instead there were faces. Faces everywhere. And she was supposed to make one.

Hazel wasn't going to let something like this be her downfall at the school, so she was going to give it her all. Even if it meant wrecking some pumpkins in ways no pumpkin deserved. She sees someone staring at her creation.]

Isn't it great? I'm going for something different.

[Look at her, obviously she's been carving pumpkins her entire life! She doesn't even need this class, clearly.]

Costume Crafting
[When she was encouraged by the merchant to try on the cape and see how she liked it--never admitting she had no such money to pay for it--she didn't expect much. It just looked like a plain dull brown cape to her. The merchant took a step back, eyes wide.]

What's wrong? It doesn't look bad.

[It would be good for camouflage at night. Except that what everyone else saw was a floating flaming skull and she walked back and forth in front of the stalls.]

[Dante is too old for this. However, Dante also hasn't carved a pumpkin approximately Ever. He was never trusted with knives, back when Eva was still alive, and after the death of his mother things like the holidays kind of lost their pizzazz for a while.

But he's bored, and the pumpkins are here, and he's pretty deft with a blade. All in all it leads to the awful combination of him surrounded by pumpkin guts, a broad smile on his face as he carves a gruesome face into a poor, unsuspecting pumpkin.]

[He doesn't look all that out of place, amongst the costumes, with his long red coat and inexplicable cowboy hat. There's a scarf wrapped around his neck that seems to be made of magic, rippling and glowing, and he browses through the racks.
