With Winter Quarter in full swing, students can often be found dashing madly about the halls, with part-time jobs, classes, and other events and interests occupying much of their time.

Of course, that doesn't mean it's all work. Daybreak Academy tries to offer its students an abundance of leisure time to relax and unwind. With Valentine's Day fast approaching, romance is in the air as news of the Feast of St. Valentine and the Valentine's Ball begin to spread around campus. Already, talks of fashion and finding the right date are buzzing among the student body. With the winter months winding down, the oppressive chill of Winter is starting to loosen its grip, but there's still plenty of snow left for those who want to take one last run at Daybreak's slopes. As midterms approach, the school is as vibrant and busy as ever.

A. SECOND-HAND MARKET

Daybreak Academy has existed for several centuries. Throughout all that time, its ethos has been that of honing the abilities of deserving students, no matter what their birthright or social standing. Even still, the lavish galas befitting the riches of the school continued to have an impact, as poorer students unable to acquire proper attire were often locked out. To remedy this, Daybreak Academy began a tradition that it has upheld ever since - the Second-Hand Market. Hosted in an ever-expanding number of classrooms, the Second-Hand Market brings out all of the clothing, weapons, and other items that have been acquired, resold, or otherwise donated to the academy throughout its lifespan.

Here, any students and faculty can acquire any number of items, such as formal wear, weaponry, and other items for a fraction of the price. Most items are in decent condition, although there are some old items in disrepair that are even cheaper. They can come from just about anywhere in the world and just about any era, and you are able to exchange equivalent items, weapons and armor in both magical and mundane varieties, and formal clothing. Especially among richer students, the tradition is to donate any new clothing or items you commission for social events once the event is complete, to keep the stock current and available for the students who might need it.

With the upcoming ball, the Second-Hand Market is once again open for the first half of February. Staffed completely by students, it is frequently bustling with customers, many of whom not only buy outfits or weapons for the upcoming dance, but also spares they can use for their own projects.

B. LAST CHANCE ON THE SLOPES

With the Winter season winding down, the Arctic Slopes are entering their final months of operation for the season. For those hoping to get some skiing or snowboarding in, now will be the last chance for quite some time. As such, the lodge is full of students trying to take advantage of the last chance on the slopes. Winter has lingered this year, and the snow pack is still dense, making it perfect for one last hurrah. With the rush of students and faculty alike, the lodge is stocked with warm meals and hot chocolate to fill people's bellies after a long day on the slopes.

C. ALCHEMY MISHAP

Accidents happen, especially when you’re playing with the very essence of matter - and one just happened in the Alchemy student lab, causing a cloud of pale smoke to float all over campus. Thankfully it won’t turn anyone into a toad or kill someone.

But it does strange things to one’s vocal chords when inhaled, and unlike Helium it isn’t a one-trick pony, voices raise and lower in pitch, foreign accents, even completely different languages may start coming out of person’s mouth while they’re within in the cloud. Though that bit of an echo effect does sound pretty cool.

Jun helped. By which I mean, Jun stood to the side and watched very attentively while not actually contributing to or understanding anything that Roy was doing.

This, apparently, was not his area of expertise.

As the smoke clears, Roy's voice returns to its lower, commanding tone.

"What's your name, student?"

"Jun." Said Jun. That was the one thing he was actually sure about.

"Just 'Jun'?"

Roy wasn't necessarily completely unused to people with no surnames, but he did generally find it odd.

"Just Jun. I'd show you my ID but I don't have one."

[kingcommander]

"You are a student here, are you not? You are required to have an ID on this premise."

Roy is now giving Jun a hard, suspicious look.

"I lost it."

Technically true. "Maybe we can look me up on the student roster and I can get a new one?"

[kingcommander]

"Maybe we can look you up on the student roster and see if you belong here. You'll be coming with me."

Is this an arrest? This seems like an arrest.

"You can show me the way."

It isn't an arrest if Jun believes it isn't an arrest hard enough.

"I will direct you. Start walking and keep your hands where I can see them."

While saying this, Roy will put a white glove with a rather interesting symbol on it over his hand.

A. TOKYO TEACHER TRIES TO ACQUIRE USED GOODS FROM STUDENTS TO SELL ON EBAY

[Right after arriving -- a week late -- to start teaching at this new, fancy school, Yukari Tanizaki...

...discovered she was out of money. This means a get-rich-quick-scheme was necessary.

And thus Yukari is at the second-hand market. She is currently lifting up a coat, looking it over. It has gold thread embroidery and is cut to be worn with a cravat; it's really something one would wear if they were, for instance, the son of Dracula.

She frowns at it, before looking to the person next to her.]

B. LANGUAGE EDUCATION OR A LACK THEREOF

[Yukari is sitting in the lounge. This is class time.

She has brought her class here.

She is sipping hot chocolate, has a beauty mask on her face, and her feet propped up on the table. She takes a long sip of her hot chocolate, and sighs softly.]

So, the way you conjugate that verb in Sylvan is to do this. Precisely this. It's an amazing language, really.

D. STRAIGHT-UP SHIT POSTING

Jun eyed Roy's glove for a moment. The symbol seemed similar to the one he had just drawn on the ground in overall structure, if not fine details. Probably some manner of magical focus, then. This guy considered him dangerous.

Well. Maybe he was. Jun's hand tightened on the blue staff that he had been carrying since the start of this thread but I neglected to mention until now. I promise it was there. He took his other hand out of his pocket, though, and started walking.

Roy won't object to the staff per se, but he will definitely perp-walk Jun to the administrative office and go over the student rolls.

"Doesn't look like you're in here, 'Jun'."

It's as much an accusation as a statement.

"Fuck."

Jun's shoulders slumped. He'd really been hoping he would be in there. "I don't know, then."

He kept his mouth shut, not daring to speak in fear of sounding like a chipmunk huffing helium. After a moment, he groans, chipmunk or deflating balloon animal, he had to answer.

"i was there yesterday. i was heading to the lab today when," he gestures, before touching his gloveless fingers-clad to his temple, closing his eyes in thought. "i know i had set out reagents that wouldn't do more than let off harmless black smoke if they decided to mess around unsupervised and made it very clear to clean up themselves, but i know i didn't leave out pine."

[kingcommander]

"Why don't you take a seat and tell me everything."

This isn't actually a request.

He sat.

"There's not really much to tell. The first thing I remember is I was just standing there in that second-hand market you have set up. Before that..."

A helpless shrug. There's nothing there.

"I suppose we can take you to the healer. We'll need to have you evaluated."

Time to get up, Jun, we're moving again.

"Why don't you tell me who YOU are first?"

Can't let this guy boss him around forever.

She slings her black dress over her shoulder.

"Alright. I'll drop it off on my way back through. While I'm here, do you have anything in a mint green?"

"Colonel Roy Mustang, BND and Daybreak Academy instructor."

Are you done? Because Roy expects you to move, now.

"What was stocked in the cabinets? How were they secured?"

Clearly someone got into something they weren't supposed to.

"I think so, one second."

Thumbing through the dresses, he comes up with a reasonably modern albeit somewhat scandalously cut mint green dress.

"Does this work?"

Jun considered this for just long enough to establish that he was only doing this because he thought it was a good idea, not because Roy was telling him to do it.

...Okay that ought to do it. He got up again. "Lead the way, then, Colonel."

"Hmm," she ponders over it a moment. It may be a little too revealing for the Valentine's ball, but she could certainly use it elsewhere if it was inappropriate.

"Yes, I think that will do. It shouldn't be too constricting should monsters appear and need to be taken care of quickly. I'll take it."
