Despite her generally cool demeanor, even Aya Brea couldn't keep her mouth from dropping open at the display before her. Heaps of food. Heaps. It was almost offensive. Aya had never been destitute, but there had been times (even as a police officer) when she'd had to live off instant mac n'cheese and ramen noodles.
This really is an entirely different world.
Aya continued walking, not wanting to block the door. Fire hazard, she thought wryly as she took a seat in one of the cavernous hall's corners. Back to the wall, eyes on the exit. She shifted in her seat, trying to get a better look at the gigantic ice sculpture in front of her. Some kind of giant lizard? A dragon, perhaps? Not for the first time since arriving, and definitely not for the last, Aya felt completely out of her depth. Suddenly, she didn't feel like a fool for bringing her handgun to dinner. It rested in the holster under her right arm, covered from view by her well-worn leather jacket.
However, despite any misgivings, Aya was not going to say no to free food. First course: a Caesar salad.
C - Dorm Room Icebreakers
Despite her apparently advanced age compared to most of the student population, Aya had managed to avoid being posted as an RA. This meant that, once again due to her advanced age, no one could force her to participate in any icebreaking games. It wasn't that Aya was trying to be difficult, she just didn't have the energy. It was too much change, and all at once. She just needed a breather.
So outside she went, to explore the school grounds. It wasn't even that cold, and Aya was fairly sure it wasn't only because she tended to run on the hot side since New York City. If this is as cold as it gets, maybe this won't be so bad.
Hands in her pockets, Aya struck a leisurely pace as she explored the gardens. It was beautiful. The holiday lights twinkled, ribbons and baubles tied to the trees bobbed in the cool breeze. It was hard to believe the end of the world was coming.
