TEST DRIVE MEME - AUGUST

AUGUST TEST DRIVE MEME
IC Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation

A. Voluntelling
While the Academy pays for all expenses trips to exotic locales for vacation, there is a quiet expectation that when problems arise that students will jump up and take care of the problem wherever it arises, even if it means interrupting a well-earned vacation for a brief time.
This time, a nightclub in the Azores is suffering from the influx of spirits of early portuguese settlers partying in the club and becoming quite rowdy; how do you plan to get them to move along? It's most certainly not a job for a single person, and you don't want to wrack up the long-distance charges for a certain business to get rid of them, so it's all up to you.
B. Lay over
The flights back to Daybreak, while done on privately owned jets are still beholden to mother nature, and a large bank of thunderclouds have grounded the planes for the next several hours, leaving awaiting students and staff to try to find ways to entertain themselves while stranded in the airport. Charge ports are limited, food and airport fantasy books are overpriced and you can’t leave the terminal - how do you even survive?
C. Come Dance all Night
In Soliel, the Azores, Miami - and other parts unknown, fliers for a free concert appear advertising bands one has never heard of, and it soon becomes apparent the fliers are invisible to those not aware of the supernatural.
Going to the listed locations will prove that the adverts were legit, as bands of witches, elves, and more playing strange but extremely enjoyable hybrid music as people mosh in front of the stage, or floating above it. And overpriced vendor food was hawked from popcorn to more exotic fare such as dewdrops (with humans cautioned against partaking it without a handy friend nearby). All in all it's a fun night of music.
D. IRIS NETWORK
This month’s network prompt is a very simple one.
UN: shinyhappyppl

no subject
Yes, that will work nicely.
[Ky reaches, peeking at his card, showing small, thin scars on his hands, and very callused fingertips. Not a bad start, a five and a six]
That's right, we're on our way back to the Academy.
no subject
Of course, his own hand is quite good: he'd set up the deck to be that way, giving him a 'decent but beatable' hand of a ten and a 7.]
I see! And what Academy would that be?
...Ah, And will you hit or stay?
no subject
[He taps]
Daybreak - we're a Kindergarten-Graduate academy.
[Which on the surface had a reputation as an exclusive school for the brightest... or the richest]
I teach Latin and a few other languages there.
no subject
He blinks for a moment, looking surprised - before a wide grin covers his face as he hands over a card (a six, to see if he'll attempt to stay or try his luck once more).]
Truly? Well well - what a coincidence! I'm hoping to go to the academy myself - to be hired as a professor, of course.
[He chuckles to himself, as if he can't believe the odds of being in the same terminal as them.
(Of course, he knew. News travels quickly in the right channels, especially those more underground than not, and he'd hoped to be able to at least spot a glimpse of them before departing. Then the thunderstorm hit, and, well...
It looked more and more like mother nature lent him a helping hand than anything else.)]
With luck, you may be seeing more of me around campus.
- Oh, and I pass.
[No cards for him.]
no subject
Strange how providence works. Perhaps we would meet, Mr...?
no subject
Moriarty - James Moriarty, and hopefully a future professor of Mathmatics at the academy!
And yourself?
no subject
[He leans back as he notes the tie, wanting to give the man some cautionary advice, but held his tongue, unsure how much he knows about the Academy's true nature]
I suppose this one won't count to our tally.
no subject
[And unusual, definitely.]
Hm, I suppose not...Well then, you'll be the dealer. Go ahead!
[And as he waits, he speaks again.]
That being said, it is an interesting Academy... I've heard it's meant for the especially gifted, so I can only hope my current knowledge is deemed up to par. Ah, as a teacher yourself, might I ask you something?
no subject
[He shuffles, not with the preciseness that Moriarty showed, but careful not to bend them before he dealt Moriarty's cards then his own, peeking at his - a queen and a ten, blinking]
Yes - I'll answer to the best my of abilities.
no subject
Anyway, he motions for another card before speaking.]
How do you handle teaching for such...
[There's suddenly a change - outsiders would see just a conversation, but it's clear from the way his eyes narrow and how he holds himself that he means what he's saying next an entirely different way.]
gifted students? I must admit, it will be my first foray into teaching for students of that caliber.
no subject
Patience, many of them come from very difficult situations, and for some that means they're naturally not likely to trust anyone with any kind of authority.
