With Winter Quarter in full swing, students can often be found dashing madly about the halls, with part-time jobs, classes, and other events and interests occupying much of their time.

Of course, that doesn't mean it's all work. Daybreak Academy tries to offer its students an abundance of leisure time to relax and unwind. With Valentine's Day fast approaching, romance is in the air as news of the Feast of St. Valentine and the Valentine's Ball begin to spread around campus. Already, talks of fashion and finding the right date are buzzing among the student body. With the winter months winding down, the oppressive chill of Winter is starting to loosen its grip, but there's still plenty of snow left for those who want to take one last run at Daybreak's slopes. As midterms approach, the school is as vibrant and busy as ever.

A. SECOND-HAND MARKET

Daybreak Academy has existed for several centuries. Throughout all that time, its ethos has been that of honing the abilities of deserving students, no matter what their birthright or social standing. Even still, the lavish galas befitting the riches of the school continued to have an impact, as poorer students unable to acquire proper attire were often locked out. To remedy this, Daybreak Academy began a tradition that it has upheld ever since - the Second-Hand Market. Hosted in an ever-expanding number of classrooms, the Second-Hand Market brings out all of the clothing, weapons, and other items that have been acquired, resold, or otherwise donated to the academy throughout its lifespan.

Here, any students and faculty can acquire any number of items, such as formal wear, weaponry, and other items for a fraction of the price. Most items are in decent condition, although there are some old items in disrepair that are even cheaper. They can come from just about anywhere in the world and just about any era, and you are able to exchange equivalent items, weapons and armor in both magical and mundane varieties, and formal clothing. Especially among richer students, the tradition is to donate any new clothing or items you commission for social events once the event is complete, to keep the stock current and available for the students who might need it.

With the upcoming ball, the Second-Hand Market is once again open for the first half of February. Staffed completely by students, it is frequently bustling with customers, many of whom not only buy outfits or weapons for the upcoming dance, but also spares they can use for their own projects.

B. LAST CHANCE ON THE SLOPES

With the Winter season winding down, the Arctic Slopes are entering their final months of operation for the season. For those hoping to get some skiing or snowboarding in, now will be the last chance for quite some time. As such, the lodge is full of students trying to take advantage of the last chance on the slopes. Winter has lingered this year, and the snow pack is still dense, making it perfect for one last hurrah. With the rush of students and faculty alike, the lodge is stocked with warm meals and hot chocolate to fill people's bellies after a long day on the slopes.

C. ALCHEMY MISHAP

Accidents happen, especially when you’re playing with the very essence of matter - and one just happened in the Alchemy student lab, causing a cloud of pale smoke to float all over campus. Thankfully it won’t turn anyone into a toad or kill someone.

But it does strange things to one’s vocal chords when inhaled, and unlike Helium it isn’t a one-trick pony, voices raise and lower in pitch, foreign accents, even completely different languages may start coming out of person’s mouth while they’re within in the cloud. Though that bit of an echo effect does sound pretty cool.

[ Speaking of which - he abruptly realizes Tadashi hasn't seen any of his powers. That's enough to make him grin. ]

[He tucks the servo into his bag and pays for it, but grins at Peter.] I definitely have to see this. Show me.

[ And without any warning whatsoever, he puts an arm around Tadashi, lifting him bodily with no apparent strain. In the next second, he flings out a strand of web from the webshooter on his wrists, pulling them up and towards the nearest building.

Hope you wanted to swing around with Spider-Man today, Tadashi. ]

Whoa-- [PETER..... Okay, after the initial surprise, this is.... really cool. He's grinning by the time they stop for a second, Tadashi looking down and around.] Okay. Okay, very cool.

[ He swings them past a few buildings before hauling them up onto a rooftop, giving them both a chance to rest. Swinging someone around by their waist is kind of awkward; he'd rather give Tadashi a chance to reposition himself if he wants to keep going.

He's beaming a bit at Tadashi afterwards. ]

[ He holds out a wrist, showing Tadashi his webshooter. ]

[Tadashi's grinning from ear to ear when they stop, but as soon as the webshooter comes out, he's focused. He stands on his own and moves Peter's wrist so he can get a better look at it, turning the whole arm this way and that.] Interesting... Is it organic or... Cartridge?

[ Gross. Why does everyone ask that question. He can't help but wrinkle his nose a bit. ]

Dude, it's definitely a cartridge. I make 'em, yeah, but not with my body.

[It's just a question! But satisfied, he smiles and lets it go, kind of half circling Peter now.] And how do your powers work with it then?

Technically they don't? Anyone can use 'em. But I'm super strong and springy now.

[ Once Tadashi s to the side of him and not behind him, he does a casual backflip onto the chimney of the house they're standing on. And sticks to the brickwork without much regard to gravity. ]

Hm. [Mostly Tadashi's just... proud now. While none of them really asked for these powers, he's glad Peter's adapted to them so well.] I can see why they got you here. Annnnd probably why you wouldn't want your aunt to know about it.

[ He'll gladly take pride okay. He walks back down the side of the chimney, until he's on level footing again. ]

Yeah. Uh. I fought crime back home. Sneaking out at night and stuff. She and Uncle Ben were pretty worried as it was.

...I can imagine they would be. [He stretches, looking back out at the sky.] At least here they can tell themselves you're safe studying.

[ Well. There's a couple problems with that, admittedly. Peter had talked about both his aunt and uncle the last time Tadashi had seen him. Now, well ... ]

... My uncle's gone. He died about six months ago.

Oh. [Shit. Welp.] ...I'm sorry. [For the loss, for the fact he knows that means his aunt is alone while Peter's here.]

[ Yeeeeep. Poor May's life kind of sucks in all this. For a couple reasons. ]

You can see why I'm definitely not telling her anything about this place. It's safe, yeah, but ... weird stuff happens.

Yeah, definitely. [He looks at Peter again, determined to keep an eye on him now. He was already planning to before, but now he feels like he owes it to Aunt May.] At least you're not alone here. You've got me, and there's a lot of other great people here.

[ If Tadashi has been around long enough, he might have heard Peter's name cursed by a few RAs and/or teachers by now. A smartass trouble maker who's crazy smart but also a hurricane. ]

[Yeah it's ringing a bell, he just never realized it was the same Peter. Mutters a "Sounds about right" before looking at Peter again.] Good, at least. Speaking of, if you're good we should finish heading back.
