Test-Drive Meme - February

TEST DRIVE MEME
Log Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation

Of course, that doesn't mean it's all work. Daybreak Academy tries to offer its students an abundance of leisure time to relax and unwind. With Valentine's Day fast approaching, romance is in the air as news of the Feast of St. Valentine and the Valentine's Ball begin to spread around campus. Already, talks of fashion and finding the right date are buzzing among the student body. With the winter months winding down, the oppressive chill of Winter is starting to loosen its grip, but there's still plenty of snow left for those who want to take one last run at Daybreak's slopes. As midterms approach, the school is as vibrant and busy as ever.

A. SECOND-HAND MARKET
Daybreak Academy has existed for several centuries. Throughout all that time, its ethos has been that of honing the abilities of deserving students, no matter what their birthright or social standing. Even still, the lavish galas befitting the riches of the school continued to have an impact, as poorer students unable to acquire proper attire were often locked out. To remedy this, Daybreak Academy began a tradition that it has upheld ever since - the Second-Hand Market. Hosted in an ever-expanding number of classrooms, the Second-Hand Market brings out all of the clothing, weapons, and other items that have been acquired, resold, or otherwise donated to the academy throughout its lifespan.
Here, any students and faculty can acquire any number of items, such as formal wear, weaponry, and other items for a fraction of the price. Most items are in decent condition, although there are some old items in disrepair that are even cheaper. They can come from just about anywhere in the world and just about any era, and you are able to exchange equivalent items, weapons and armor in both magical and mundane varieties, and formal clothing. Especially among richer students, the tradition is to donate any new clothing or items you commission for social events once the event is complete, to keep the stock current and available for the students who might need it.
With the upcoming ball, the Second-Hand Market is once again open for the first half of February. Staffed completely by students, it is frequently bustling with customers, many of whom not only buy outfits or weapons for the upcoming dance, but also spares they can use for their own projects.
B. LAST CHANCE ON THE SLOPES
With the Winter season winding down, the Arctic Slopes are entering their final months of operation for the season. For those hoping to get some skiing or snowboarding in, now will be the last chance for quite some time. As such, the lodge is full of students trying to take advantage of the last chance on the slopes. Winter has lingered this year, and the snow pack is still dense, making it perfect for one last hurrah. With the rush of students and faculty alike, the lodge is stocked with warm meals and hot chocolate to fill people's bellies after a long day on the slopes.
C. ALCHEMY MISHAP
Accidents happen, especially when you’re playing with the very essence of matter - and one just happened in the Alchemy student lab, causing a cloud of pale smoke to float all over campus. Thankfully it won’t turn anyone into a toad or kill someone.
But it does strange things to one’s vocal chords when inhaled, and unlike Helium it isn’t a one-trick pony, voices raise and lower in pitch, foreign accents, even completely different languages may start coming out of person’s mouth while they’re within in the cloud. Though that bit of an echo effect does sound pretty cool.

Madeline "Maddie" Curie | Original
[ Maddie has been checking out the second-hand market, for a certain degree of checking out. Really, the multi-hued brown cat running ahead of her is doing all of the checking out while Maddie follows behind, white cane tap tapping the ground in front of her from side to side as she walks. That might catch people's eyes, if the bright red hair and uhhh shirt don't.
Her cat calls out to her, though, and she approaches a stall. Gingerly, she tucks her cane under her arm, reaches out towards her cat... and picks up the shirt next to it, as if knowing it was there.
Turning towards the nearest person, she holds up said shirt. ] Hey, what does this shirt say? [ Feel free to make up the weirdest, dumbest, or funniest phrase you possibly can, or just whatever would be most embarrassing for your character to have to read out loud. GO. ]
[ C: Whoopsy daisy alchemicrazy ]
[ So Maddie transferred into the class today. No biggie. Except the teacher didn't get the memo that.... the new student was blind.
Usually, Maddie goes with the flow. But when the class is tasked with mixing up different reagents, and none of the ingredients are labelled in braille... she acts out a little.
Tossing in a couple different ingredients, completely and utterly randomly. She has no idea what any of them are, but hey, it's not her fault, right? She's expected to do this for a grade and she can't read the labels! Except when it starts smoking, she realizes she maybe went a little too far, and starts to panic.
And coughing, because the smoke is originating right from her little mixing pot. ] Qu'est-ce qui se passe? Attends, je suis quoi? Est-ce que je parle Français!?

I only know what half of those are, but my vote is for the Kraken. Because everybody loves tentacles.
I'm not sure why but I have been assured this is true.
A
[She's hesitating to say it. It's a pretty terrible shirt.]
Maybe don't get that one.

You can't just... that's not an answer. I make my own choices.
I just need to know what it says.
no subject
It says "I put your mom through college" and has a silhouette of a pole dancer.

I'm buying this one!

C.
Ici un jour et déjà faire des ennuis? Je suis si fier de toi.
[Good news: an experienced, knowledgeable adult is here.]
[Bad news: it's Jail.]
Nice of you to go native, compere- you're gonna put google translate outta business, at this rate.
[Good news: Jail knows French.]
[Bad news: she's an asshole.]
C'mon, let's get you some fresh air and watch how this plays out.

[ Maddie's voice is slightly panicked?
She takes a moment to kind of fumble her way away from the table, hands guiding her along its length and heading towards Jail's voice. ]
no subject
[Jail sounds unaffected by the smoke. But then again, she is wearing a gas mask.]
[Her expression softens slightly at the anxiety in Maddie's voice, though- not that Maddie can see it. She "absently" starts humming slightly under her breath, a casual habit that's definitely not a deliberate way of making more noise so that it's easier for Maddie to find her.]
