CHARACTER: Desidera Neroni | original | unlogic
CHARACTER AND AU SUMMARY:
• A mage girl with daemonic traits as a direct result of some dumbass contract bullshit that her mother went and tried to do before she was born, which did not work as intended. She lived a ridiculously-sheltered life before Daybreak, because the Veil is a thing and there's not exactly much an obviously-not-fully-human kid can really do without violating it. She used to kind of hate her mother for it all, but they are now on far better terms in part because needing to come to Daybreak has turned out to be literally the best thing to ever happen to her.
• At this point, she identifies herself as more daemon than human, but she also hasn't abandoned her humanity. She's also pretty sure of the finer details of the aforementioned incident (but has not outright confirmed it), but doesn't plan to actually do anything about that because she's come to accept everything being the way it is.
• She does not remember anything about her father aside from the fact that he's human, and has assumed that her parents separated because of her mother's actions. She's also unaware that she has an older half-brother through him. (For AU-planning purposes, if anybody actually wants either of those roles for any character being considered, I am open to planning things out!)
• She is one of Valvatorez's protégés, having been specifically pointed in his direction due to her particular needs when she first came to the academy. (He may or may not be gradually preparing her for possible work as an assistant to him in the future.) She prefers wielding her daemonic powers (which are largely shadow manipulation, but not limited to that) over ordinary magic anymore, and tends to get awfully creative with them at times.
• She's presently in a relationship with Gunvolt, and they've somewhat-recently finally had their first actual date. She's also the adoptive older sister to Monarch, a magitech AI idol singer that she and Gunvolt helped rescue (twice) from people looking to exploit her.

CHARACTER: Rebecca Fulton | original | lifeforced
CHARACTER AND AU SUMMARY:
• The daughter of two Hunters in a clan that prioritizes dealing with human threats (as in, they primarily deal with people who are found to be actively seeking to help bring about Nightfall/etc). The clan has numerous enemies, and as such, its members frequently relocate to reduce the risk to themselves as well as risks to any of the places where they make their homes.
• She met Lia Brooks when she was twelve (in 2014), while her family was living in New York. They were friends back then, and remained in touch after Becky's family moved away. Reuniting at Daybreak was a surprise to both of them.
• Her Candle ability manifested at age seven due to a stressful/traumatic experience (in which she had been kidnapped by people who were targeting her parents). It's an accelerated healing rate and the ability to grant the same to others via touch. Because it is due to being a Candle, it doesn't work on undead and will harm them instead (she is presently unaware of this, as she's never tried to do it). She can also push it to work faster than it nomally does, but runs the risk of exhausting herself when she does so.
• Regardless of if she's actively using it or not, her ability is constantly in effect on herself, so for her it's functionally minor regen and it's also seemingly stopped her from aging; she looks seven, but she's eighteen. Her apparent agelessness and being stuck in such a small body is frequently viewed as a Problem, but 1) she's not willing to do anything stupid to deal with that, and 2) she is completely willing to use it to her advantage.
• The same experience that led to her manifestation also resulted in her becoming claustrophobic; under most circumstances, she cannot deal with being in enclosed spaces or anywhere where she feels 'trapped'. She makes no secret of the claustrophobia itself, but does not talk about the kidnapping incident unless there's an absolute need to and it's to someone that she feels she can explicitly trust with it. (At present, Lia's the only one that really knows anything about it.)
• Though she's starting to do it a bit less often than before, she regularly volunteers a portion of her free time at Daybreak's infirmary, and it's been frequently enough that some individuals consider her an actual part of the staff despite her being a student. She's also adopted a mindset where if it's something she's capable of doing, then she should be doing it, but she's started to question that a bit, too.
