Winter quarter is nearing its conclusion as Finals and Spring Break are quickly approaching. The library is bustling as students frantically prepare, but campus is also buzzing with excitement in anticipation of the school-funded Spring Break trip to Provence.

The administration, however, is not unsympathetic to the stressors of being a student. Comforts such as therapy animals, snack stations, and de-stressing events are being held all over campus to keep students as relaxed as possible and help them prepare for their finals. Daybreak Academy needs their students to succeed, and they spare no expense in helping them do so.

A. STUDY SESSIONS

With the approach of exams, the Hall of Pythia is enforcing 24/7 quiet hours. While it has quiet a few study rooms available, many students will find that the rooms are being booked up at an alarming rate. To account for this, classrooms and media rooms in Theater Lenormand are also being opened up for student use. Many others are spilling over into local restaurants and cafes, coming together as groups to review course material and prepare for their upcoming exams.

During these times, Faculty are expected to take a more hands-on approach as well. Faculty are strongly encouraged to host their own study sessions and rigorously review the exams and what to expect. Faculty are all given first priority for open classrooms and are able to hold after-hours lessons and Q&A sessions as they wish. While it’s not, strictly speaking, mandatory, Faculty can expect it to come up on their annual performance review if they don’t make themselves available to students.

B. THERAPY ANIMALS

Animals have proven to reduce stress, a thing sorely needed during the lead up to exams, and Daybreak Academy has provided three types of therapy animals upon request to aid with making study times much more bearable: The rare Armenian Aralez who is generous with it’s doggy kisses, About six huggable corgi-sized Wooly Bugs with their incredibly soft wool, and a pair of languid Temple lions that don’t mind being used as pillows. Try not to get too distracted from your studies.

C. FASCHING

Also known as Fastnacht Best described as ‘Bavarian Mardi Gras’, Fasching is much like it’s New Orleans and Brazilian counterparts - a celebration of the excess and to live it up until good catholics go give it up for Lent. Least that’s the intent, but like most modern holidays it’s an excuse to cut loose and have fun, and thanks to a sizable German population in Soliel, there is a bit of Fasching in early march with Beer Gardens, Masked Parties, and Live Bands along with decadently rich desserts from both German and French Cuisine. Have fun, but remember there is a curfew.

D. STORYTIME (text)

Hi everyone! This is the Folklore Club! If we could just take a moment of your time…

Daybreak Academy sure is a big school, isn’t it? And the students and staff here come from all over! Here at the Folklore Club, we research myths, legends and stories from all around the world to examine their similarities and differences.

It would really help us out if you told us what your favourite myth or legend is! Don’t be shy - we’d love to see it! Especially if it’s something that we’ve never seen before! And who knows, maybe you’ll meet someone who loves your favourite story too!

[He has to boot up his phone's translator to understand more than snatches of the boy's speech, having only recently started learning French. Fortunately, he recognizes that accent, and speaks again in Japanese.]

Are you having trouble with your own studies?

[That, he understands, and drops French for Japanese as well. He looks away from the cat.]

No~! Well, yes, as in I don't- uh, haven't studied for the final exams, but I wasn't planning on even taking them, so it's fine~! I don't think there's any possible way I can pass anything but Daemon Contracting anyway, so it's a waste of time to show up! Which! Is what I was trying to explain to Kuroko here, but she's stubborn and just look at her! Could you say no to something so cute~!?

[Kuroko is a very non-remarkable generic looking black cat.]

[It does strike him as a little strange, but...well, who knows. Maybe the cat is some sort of telepathic familiar, or something.]

That is a difficult face to resist. But, you'd be surprised how much some final exams can count for.

Wait, what!? Like final exams count for more!? I can maybe pass another class!?

[This is news to him. Granted, the best score he recalls ever getting on a final exam was a 37%, so either way, that wouldn't have mattered.]

Do you know if any classes have multiple choice finals!? How much more do they count for!? Hypothetically, say I have currently a 24% in one class and a 40% in another, is there any actual possibility of passing either of those by doing marginally better on the final exams? That's important terminology there, marginally better, because there's absolutely no way I'm getting like a C here! I did get an A on a midterm, apparently, and I am reluctantly believing that because the evidence is there, but it was a complete fluke and will never ever happen again! Also, if I accidentally take the final for a class I'm not technically in, can I transfer that to a class that I am taking~!?

The exact amount depends on the teacher, but I've seen it count for up to 75%. Ah, but...I don't think any teacher would let you substitute a grade on a different class' test for theirs, since it wouldn't have anything to do with your understanding of what they were teaching.

[Toki is speechless for once, but only for about a minute.]

75%! You wouldn't have to do anything but the final exam! Thank you so much~! To think all this effort was for absolutely nothing when I could have just focused on final exams since the beginning of the semester, never attended one single class, and just read through the textbook at my own pace~!

[The cat's ears flatten at the shouting, and she jumps down from the table, knocking over what little coffee is left in her saucer. She runs off towards the back of the cafe, but she'll return.]

[He winces at the noise, himself. Ow, his poor ears.]

I wouldn't recommend that, most teachers have attendance policies. You would need special permission to stay in a class while essentially teaching yourself.

[Though, maybe he could use this guy. Would he even need to use that power to get him to make things hard on the faculty?]

I don't know, I doubt that~! I've barely gone to any classes and no one's said anything about attendance policies~! But I'll ask anyway to make sure I can do something like that next semester~!

[If he isn't expelled after this one, which he doesn't think possible. They appear to be very lenient.]

Well, it's not unheard of...I had special permission to study at my own pace back home, because I was also working part time as a detective.

[Who Toki may have heard of, a 'teenage prodigy detective' in Tokyo, dubbed the 'Detective Prince' by the media.]

Oh, like that Detective Prince guy!?

[Being from Tokyo, he's definitely heard of that prodigy guy. He's also an idiot and would never willingly watch the news or read an article, so details are vague.]

Ah, my reputation proceeds me, then? I hope you're not expecting an autograph.

[yokeye]

You are him!? That's awesome~! Why are here!? That's a terrible career move! Unless you're like undercover for some huge take-down! Is that it!? Are there shady dealings afoot, because some of these professors are a little, you know, suspicious! Oh! It's Mario, isn't it!? What is he!? His mushrooms are like those mushrooms, aren't they!?

It's nothing to do with my career. I'm here for the same reason a lot of students are, to hone my magical abilities. Well, I suppose it's possible I might learn some things that are useful for investigating things...but mainly, I just decided when I learned about the Nightfall that it was a higher priority.

[yokeye]

What kind of powers do you have~!?

[He's actively avoiding all Nightfall talk as much as possible. It's terrifying and imminent and it's coming soon.]

Nothing too fancy just yet. I can summon a familiar that helps me channel some physical or magical attacks. I can also glow, but I'm given to believe that's just to be assumed of Flames.

[yokeye]

What kind of familiar~!? My roommate has a dragon thing! I've never seen anybody glow! Well, once, kind of, but it was more like she was surrounded in energy~! And she could fly! Levitate, but flying sounds better!

Humanoid, but he's a little large to be summoning in a cafe. Maybe you'll have a chance to see me practicing with his abilities.

[yokeye]

It's humanoid, but too big for the cafe!? Is it a giant!? It is like human humanoid, or made out of rocks or clay or or is it a robot giant!? Is it a cyclops!? Is it all tall as this building!? Like as big as Godzilla!?

[Kuroko has found her way back, slinking underneath the table.]

Not nearly that big, no. He's around ten feet tall or so, and looks reasonably biological. A little bit like a superhero, actually.

[yokeye]

[Oh. He's been disappointed with people's familiars thus far. And he wanted to tell Orihime there was a giant robot, but maybe...]

Does he have laser beam eyes!? Either way, I totally want to see him!

[foolishjustice]

Not exactly. He does fire arrows made of energy, but that's not something to show off here.

[yokeye]

That's better than laser beam eyes! You'll have to show me sometime! When you're not studying; you were studying, right!?

[foolishjustice]

Ah, that's right! I still had material left to cover today!

[...He got completely distracted by the conversation.]

[yokeye]

Sorry about that~! Hopefully, you can still get all your studying in~!

[He doesn't care about academics himself, but he doesn't want to inadvertently drag down the people who do. There were a lot of those types at the academy. He proceeds to crawl under table to procure Kuroko.]

No! We have to go, Kuroko! [hiss] Two finals! I promise~!

[The cat stops resisting and begrudgingly lets him hold her. He gets out from under the table and leaves some money by the saucer.]

Okay! We're going! It was nice talking with you~!

[Despite his moment of panic, he smiles as he waves.]
