Winter quarter is nearing its conclusion as Finals and Spring Break are quickly approaching. The library is bustling as students frantically prepare, but campus is also buzzing with excitement in anticipation of the school-funded Spring Break trip to Provence.

The administration, however, is not unsympathetic to the stressors of being a student. Comforts such as therapy animals, snack stations, and de-stressing events are being held all over campus to keep students as relaxed as possible and help them prepare for their finals. Daybreak Academy needs their students to succeed, and they spare no expense in helping them do so.

A. STUDY SESSIONS

With the approach of exams, the Hall of Pythia is enforcing 24/7 quiet hours. While it has quiet a few study rooms available, many students will find that the rooms are being booked up at an alarming rate. To account for this, classrooms and media rooms in Theater Lenormand are also being opened up for student use. Many others are spilling over into local restaurants and cafes, coming together as groups to review course material and prepare for their upcoming exams.

During these times, Faculty are expected to take a more hands-on approach as well. Faculty are strongly encouraged to host their own study sessions and rigorously review the exams and what to expect. Faculty are all given first priority for open classrooms and are able to hold after-hours lessons and Q&A sessions as they wish. While it’s not, strictly speaking, mandatory, Faculty can expect it to come up on their annual performance review if they don’t make themselves available to students.

B. THERAPY ANIMALS

Animals have proven to reduce stress, a thing sorely needed during the lead up to exams, and Daybreak Academy has provided three types of therapy animals upon request to aid with making study times much more bearable: The rare Armenian Aralez who is generous with it’s doggy kisses, About six huggable corgi-sized Wooly Bugs with their incredibly soft wool, and a pair of languid Temple lions that don’t mind being used as pillows. Try not to get too distracted from your studies.

C. FASCHING

Also known as Fastnacht Best described as ‘Bavarian Mardi Gras’, Fasching is much like it’s New Orleans and Brazilian counterparts - a celebration of the excess and to live it up until good catholics go give it up for Lent. Least that’s the intent, but like most modern holidays it’s an excuse to cut loose and have fun, and thanks to a sizable German population in Soliel, there is a bit of Fasching in early march with Beer Gardens, Masked Parties, and Live Bands along with decadently rich desserts from both German and French Cuisine. Have fun, but remember there is a curfew.

Daybreak Academy sure is a big school, isn’t it? And the students and staff here come from all over! Here at the Folklore Club, we research myths, legends and stories from all around the world to examine their similarities and differences.

It would really help us out if you told us what your favourite myth or legend is! Don’t be shy - we’d love to see it! Especially if it’s something that we’ve never seen before! And who knows, maybe you’ll meet someone who loves your favourite story too!

Therapy Animals:

[Being rather animal-like himself, Bowser is particularly fond of most animals. He thought the therapy animal idea was a good one, but he wasn't particularly fond of any of the choices that the school had provided. So he filed the necessary paperwork (read: he made one of his underlings file the necessary paperwork) and decided to bring one of his beloved pets. Which explains why there's a large, black ball like creature with big eyes and sharp teeth hopping around with a chain on its back and a...tennis racket in its mouth? Despite its looks, the beast is pretty tame and completely open to being pet. Still, it doesn't seem like many people are willing to humor the poor koopa king. Hence why he'll just call out to whoever he sees.]

HEY! YOU GOT A MINUTE? YOU DO NOW.

[Then Bowser just starts trudging over to whoever was unfortunate enough to be nearby.]

STORYTIME:

So you want a story, huh? Alright, I got one for you punks.

Many years ago, there was a big, handsome king that was loved by all his subjects! He was the coolest thing ever. People would come from all across the land just to join his kingdom. One day, this awesome king decided to pay a visit to the neighboring kingdom. A land of weird little people with mushroom head. Freaky. Anyway, he spent quite some time there, but didn't really see what all the fuss was about. Just when he was about to live, though, he spotted the kingdom's princess. Who was also their queen? Like I said, it was weird.

Anyway, it was love at first sight. Before long the two started seeing each other more and more. Things only grew from there. However, before the king could propose, the princess was snatched away by an evil mustachioed man. The king managed to free her from his clutches, only for him to steal her away again. Time and time again the king would save his beloved and time and time again the jerk would take her away. One day the king thought he'd finally trounced him for good. He proposed to the princess and she said yes. But just before the king put the ring on her finger, that mustachioed menace came back and fought against the king. Sadly for the mustachioed man, it wasn't enough and the king triumphed over that poorly-shaved weirdo once and for all! After throwing him in the dungeon, the princess and the king got married and united the two kingdoms!

Therapy Animals:

[Toki hasn't decided which therapy animal is the cutest. The dog with wings is freaking him out a little, and his brain can't stop going to "giant maggots" when he looks at the woolly bugs. The temple lions are his choice by default and he starts to approach them, but then comes the voice from behind. He turns to see... something approaching with a canon ball with shark teeth on a chain. For now, he's ignoring how frightening Bowser himself looks because the canon ball thing is just...]

SO CUTE~! It's adorable! Can I pet it!?

[This is unexpected, but welcome. Bowser lets out a deep chuckle and nods his head.]

That's what he's here for. Go right ahead, kid. Knock yourself out!

[Seemingly in response to his owner, the Chain Chomp barks (happily?) in response. It's alright with him.]

[It barks. It's okay, though. At least it doesn't look like a dog. Toki hesitantly reaches out to pet it; he's much less enthusiastic after the barking.]

[On any typical occasion, someone in Reira's shoes would probably be quaking in their boots. Bowser is huge next to the tiny 9 year old! With fearsome spikes, big claws-!

...and the decidedly NonHuman look to the guy immediately makes it easier to trust in whatever emotions are barreling her way. So unless Bowser is mad for some reason? Well between him and the eager Chain Chomp, Reira will just process the fact that apparently the question she was asked just got an answer.]

....Okay. [IF YOU SAY SHE HAS TIME...SHE PROBABLY DOES.]

Time to pet a therapy animal: mine.

[Bowser closes the gap between the two relatively quick, with the Chain Chomp hopping behind at roughly the same pace. It stops a few feet behind the big koopa, happily barking at Reira.]

Thought the selection was looking lame, so I decided to spruce it up Bowser-style.

Oh!

[Well he certainly won't need to twist any arms for it (but why only Chain Chomp, Mr. Dragon sir??? You're the one with fluff on the head...).

After giving the Chain Chomp a rather studious look, she gently moves to pet a spot as high on their head as she can reach.]

...What's lame though..? [She finds herself asking, looking up at Bowser without stopping. No being rude to the chain chomp, not today.]

*Soft fuzzy things are not the way of the isle. And Mal was never given a familiar as a kid, so she's pretty ambivalent to all the options available here. Mostly she's just thinking of creating some cursed food and making the various animals different colors for her own amusement. But- oh.*

Aren't you a big bitey fellow.

*Mal has zero trouble getting near Chain Chomp while Bowser is trying to corral a poor sap to play with his big tennis-enthusiast. Seeing if she can pet the thing without losing a hand, although she's fast enough and firey enough she should be fine. Mal has zero fear and has no idea what should be cute. And is debating if the tennis racket means throwing fireballs is the right idea.*

[Bowser, being Bowser, completely misses Mal going over to pet the Chain Chomp. He's too busy trying to rope in the current schmuck who just so happened to walk by. Rusty, however, does notice the woman walking toward him. He simply stares back at her with his big, round eyes, expectantly. It doesn't seem like he sees her as a threat, at the very least. She should be able to pet it should she want to.]

*Mal absolutely wants to pet the big chain monster. She's not shy and she's far too curious about it to be concerned for her safety.*

Hey there, aren't you just the cutest? I guess you play tennis instead of fetch?

[The teenager that's accompanied by a black dragon looks over. Hiccup looks over the Chain Chomp with undisguised interest, while Toothless sniffs at him curiously.]

I mean, kinda? Especially for something like that. What are they?

[Toothless has his own questions about the thing, but decides to find the answers in a much more hands on way. He bats at Rusty's chain just to see what would happen.]

[The chain rattles a bit and clangs against the other segments, but Rusty himself seem largely the same. Not even a small reaction. However, he does maintain eye contact with Toothless and stare back at the dragon curiously. ]

Have none of you ever seen a Chain Chomp before? Guess it's a good thing I brought him down here, then. You guys are missing out!
