TEST DRIVE MEME - AUGUST

AUGUST TEST DRIVE MEME
IC Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation

A. Voluntelling
While the Academy pays for all expenses trips to exotic locales for vacation, there is a quiet expectation that when problems arise that students will jump up and take care of the problem wherever it arises, even if it means interrupting a well-earned vacation for a brief time.
This time, a nightclub in the Azores is suffering from the influx of spirits of early portuguese settlers partying in the club and becoming quite rowdy; how do you plan to get them to move along? It's most certainly not a job for a single person, and you don't want to wrack up the long-distance charges for a certain business to get rid of them, so it's all up to you.
B. Lay over
The flights back to Daybreak, while done on privately owned jets are still beholden to mother nature, and a large bank of thunderclouds have grounded the planes for the next several hours, leaving awaiting students and staff to try to find ways to entertain themselves while stranded in the airport. Charge ports are limited, food and airport fantasy books are overpriced and you can’t leave the terminal - how do you even survive?
C. Come Dance all Night
In Soliel, the Azores, Miami - and other parts unknown, fliers for a free concert appear advertising bands one has never heard of, and it soon becomes apparent the fliers are invisible to those not aware of the supernatural.
Going to the listed locations will prove that the adverts were legit, as bands of witches, elves, and more playing strange but extremely enjoyable hybrid music as people mosh in front of the stage, or floating above it. And overpriced vendor food was hawked from popcorn to more exotic fare such as dewdrops (with humans cautioned against partaking it without a handy friend nearby). All in all it's a fun night of music.
D. IRIS NETWORK
This month’s network prompt is a very simple one.

[She turns in her seat to get a better look at him—but also for him to get a better look at her, curious as to if or how he will respond to what he sees—and then motions to the seat directly next to hers.]
I thought most of the other students were out on vacation. [Summer break aside, there was something she'd heard about taking a trip to the Azores. Before Gunvolt can offer any real response to her statement, though, she shrugs and continues:] I guess not everyone would be interested in that, though.

[He nodded, and sat down next to her. He could clearly see her rather incredibly distinct features; those horns, the red eyes, the ears. They were hard to miss. But he wasn't about to bring them up, either. They were what they were, and honestly, they weren't any stranger than Vivi. A kid whose face you could barely see and who had glowing yellow eyes. And he was as nice as could be, so. He wasn't about to judge by appearances.]
So, you new to Daybreak?
no subject
Oh, yes. I'm from a small family— [A Mage family, she means, but he's welcome to interpret it as otherwise if he so chooses.] —and there are. Things. That my mother can't help me with. We were hoping that there would be someone here who could.
Mi chiamo Desidera.
Yours?
no subject
Gunvolt. Or GV, if you'd like.
[Sure, that wasn't his actual name, but... frankly, anyone calling him "Gustav" at this point would just be weird.]
And I'm sure this place has exactly what you're looking for. I'm not sure if there's a form of magic or power they don't teach about here at some level. I didn't even know some of this stuff existed before I came here.
no subject
Desi makes a thoughtful noise upon hearing his 'name' and the nickname following it.] And which of the two do you prefer? [Either way is fine by her, so what's his preference?]
Mother had been told there was quite the variety of things that are taught here, and that there are a few teachers in particular who are rather familiar with the sort of things that I need help with. One of them had been recommended to me, and I'm planning to meet with him later to see what sort of arrangement we can make.
no subject
[It gets him fewer weird looks than Gunvolt, admittedly.]
Well, in my experience, all the professors and teachers here have actually been pretty great. Haven't had 'em all yet, but... honestly, almost all of them seem to go out of their way to make sure we get what we need. Though... I've heard stories about Professor Atchison being... well, moody? ...Mercurial? Something like that.
no subject
[Avery had been mentioned offhandedly in some earlier discussions, but he wasn't the one that had been recommended.]
Mmm, would you be able to tell me about Professor Valvatorez, or is he not among those whose classes you've taken?
no subject
Professor Valvatorez? I haven't had him yet. But I have heard a lot of stories about him. Mostly good, other than people complaining that his coursework is pretty hard and that he's strict. But he's gotta be doing something right if students around here like him even with both of those things. He's apparently both a daemon and a vampire, and he used to be some kind of huge deal. Though despite all of that, he's been 100% in on helping us stop the Nightfall.
Probably am going to be taking his Daemon Defense class next semester, though.
[He pulls a large sub sandwich of his own up to his mouth and takes a bite.]
no subject
She takes another bite of the sandwich she had started on earlier, forcing that down about as quickly as she did before.]
He's the one that had been recommended to me, so it's likely that I'll be taking his classes as well. Perhaps we'll be seeing each other then. [There's also the possibility of private lessons instead, or maybe both that and his regular classes.
It'll likely be whatever his schedule permits them to do.]
no subject
[He takes another sip of his drink before he continues.]
Been mostly focusing on elemental magic and runic inscriptions since I got here. Anything you're hoping to study, other than what you got recommended?
no subject
As for any other classes, I haven't given it as much thought as I probably should have. Apart from the lessons that I need, I suppose anything I can find the time for would be good. [She fiddles with the straw sticking out of her own drink for a moment.] Assuming that I will have any extra time, that is.
[She picks up her glass and, completely ignoring the straw, takes a large gulp.]
no subject
[He takes a couple of fries off his plate, pausing for a moment to think.]
It's different if that's what you want to do, though.
[And then he shoves them into his mouth.]
