Welcome to the August AU Planning Meme for Daybreak Academy! This post is intended to help prospective players plot their AU and figure out who their characters are in this setting and where they want to go, as well as work together with other players to plan future CR, build Secret Societies and Clubs, and generally determine where they want to start their characters, and where they want them to go. In addition to posting up the form, you are encouraged to tag around to other people's forms and discuss potential CR and plans with them. This post is an open forum for all prospective players to hash out interesting ideas for their characters ahead of joining the game.

PLAYER NAME: Claire
CHARACTER NAME: Violet Evergarden
CANON: Violet Evergarden (TV Anime continuity)
BLURB: Head's up! Violet's canon history unavoidably deals with war, conscription of child soldiers, suicidal ideation and Unpleasant Shit Like That, so whizz past this section if any of that makes you uncomfortable.
Violet is an orphan who was found as a mute and half-feral child in the middle of a warfront by one Dietfried Bougainvillea, of the Leidenschaft army. Upon discovering that she is Really Fucking Good At Murder, Like, Shit, Dude, Dietfried immediately decides he wants none of this shit and yeets Violet over to his brother Gilbert. Gilbert becomes the first person in Violet's life to treat her like An Actual Human, teaching her to read, write and generally doing his best to raise her and Violet, in turn, incredibly attached to him. This ticking time bomb of a situation gets the wick lit on it when Gilbert's superiors take notice of Violet being Really Fucking Good At Murder, Like, Shit, Dude and have her enlisted to fight on the front lines with Gilbert as her handler.
Violet spends most of the rest of the war being Really Fucking Good At etc. and Gilbert gradually falls apart from the guilt of being forced to use the girl who is essentially his adopted daughter as a weapon of war. This comes to a head when he and Violet are assigned to a potentially war-ending operation that puts the two directly in the enemy lines. The battle is won, but in the process, Violet loses both of her arms and Gilbert is killed, telling Violet with his last words that he loves her – but Violet, having lived the life that she has, literally cannot understand what the word "love" even means. Afterwards, Violet spends about a half-year or so in the hospital, recovering physically and getting her arms replaced by a pair of FMA-ass metal prosthetics that serve all the functions of her missing limbs, hands included. Quite importantly, she is not yet aware of Gilbert's death as no one knows how to break the news to her. She's released into the custody of ex-solider Claudia Hodgins, who ends up more-or-less adopting her and offering her a job and a place to feel useful at the CH Postal Company, a letter-writing and delivery business he has established to meet the needs of the population following the war.
Violet initially struggles to settle in to any one job, but by chance ends up accidentally watching over a job taken out by one of the company's Auto Memoir Dolls (basically an Emotional Support Ghostwriter) who is able to intuit from the twitterpated customer that he wishes to confess his love to the woman he's addressing. Wanting desperately to understand the meaning of the words "I love you" Violet begs Hodgins to allow her to work as an Auto Memoir Doll. Recognizing that this is the first and only thing that Violet has ever requested of her own will, he agrees to let her do so.
Violet has an incredibly rocky start and is initially discouraged almost to the point of giving up, but after writing a letter for her very first friend, she is able to properly convey a message for someone else and from there, Violet's letter writing skills improve in leaps and bounds, even if her personal progress is somewhat less smooth. She eventually becomes incredibly famous as an Auto Memoir Doll and dealing so close with other people's feelings allows Violet to see herself in their stories and understand herself better. However, that progress also comes with it a more thorough understanding of Violet's own history of pain and atrocities during the war and she gradually becomes overwhelmed by the guilt of what she's done.
Shit absolutely pops off when Violet inadvertently discovers at basically the worst possible time that Gilbert is dead. This leads to Violet having an enormous breakdown and very nearly giving up on not just being a Doll but on living altogether. Gently encouraged by her new family at the C.H. Postal Company, however, Violet is slowly able to take tottering steps towards processing her grief and moving past it. Remembering the reason she began her work in the first place and reflecting on how far she's come prompts Violet to pose Hodgins with a question: is it truly alright for her to be an Auto Memoir Doll, after all the pain and suffering she's caused? Or, more importantly, is it alright for her to even live at all? Hodgins, who has been struggling with the same questions himself, eventually responds that her actions as a soldier cannot ever be erased, neither can the sincere good that she does now as an Auto Memoir Doll. Violet takes these words to heart and decides that this is enough for her to be satisfied with, and is finally able to move past the grief of Gilbert's death and begin moving on into a life without him.
i swear to god no matter how much that sounds like a finale, there's still like four fuckng episodes left but like. it's basically the end of her character arc and this is already SO LONG even though it's supposed to be a blurb i'M SORRY
AU INFORMATION
CHARACTER AU NAME: Violet Evergarden
STUDENT OR FACULTY?: Student
CHARACTER BLURB: a "short" blurb it's cute the mods have so much faith in me. also this lil blurb has some mentions of Therion (
In Violet's AU history, the Bougainvilleas are an old-ish family of hunters and mages in Germany who stumble across Violet, just as mute and half-feral as canon, in the Outland Mists and promptly get her the hell out of there. They are able to establish that she is... probably half-fey, or at least has powers resembling feycraft that manifest in a sort of magical hypersensitivity that gives her heightened senses and reflexes as well as a healthy dollop of involuntary empathy. So like, Feelings, But Too Much. For a time, she's entrusted to Gilbert who, as in canon, begins to raise Violet as his surrogate daughter, teaching her how to speak, read and helping her to get a better hang on her powers.
Eventually, the Bougainvilleas sort of split into two factions: one side that wants to continue raising Violet as a normal girl and adopting her formally and another side who recognize her potential as a Hunter and want to turn her into a tool to use against magical creatures. As you might imagine, Gilbert doesn't exactly cotton to that shit and starts quietly planning behind the scenes to extract both of them from the Bougainvillea family and live a new life elsewhere.
Unfortunately, on their attempt to escape from the Bougainvilleas, they're essentially ambushed by a few members of the faction who kind of really want to use the actual child as a weapon and have decided they'd rather not have Violet sent out into the world where they don't have control over her. This results in a car wreck that kills everyone involved except Violet, who loses both of her arms.
Like in canon, she is sent to the hospital to recover and have her arms replaced with her FMA-ass prosthetics and eventually released into the care of Claudia Hodgins, an old friend of Gilbert's. He runs the C.H. Postal Company, an organization that handles confidential and sensitive information for magic uses who cannot or don't want to use more mundane correspondence. Violet is officially adopted by Hodgins at age ten and then spends the next eight years or so being raised by him (and basically the entirety C.H. Postal Company's staff, who all love her). Since she isn't really well-equipped to handle regular schooling, Violet is homeschooled at the company and gradually begins doing odd jobs for them, before being more-or-less officially hired as a deliverygirl for them.
It's during one of these deliveries (to none other than Gilbert's brother, in fact) that she manages to thwart an attempted robbery of her goods. The thief, a young man named Therion (HI ASHER) is sort-of-kind-of civilian arrested by Dietfried, but Hodgins is able to talk him down from yeeting Therion into jail. It's eventually agreed that he'll be sent to Daybreak Academy instead and Violet surprises everyone by asking to go as well. Therion is the first Candle she's ever met and she sees this as her only avenue to properly learn about her powers, which is something she's always desperately wanted. Recognizing that this is the first thing Violet has ever been truly passionate about, Hodgins agrees to let her go and she is sort of unofficially tasked with being Therion's babysitter while they attend Daybreak.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: Violet's AU history gives her some pretty varied connections – to the Bougainvilleas, an old Hunter family and to the C.H. Postal Company who have their thumbs in all sorts of magical pies. Because of this, it's likely characters might know about these organizations but it's likely they wouldn't personally be involved or know Violet herself – but I'm totally happy for that to be the case! I think it'd be super fascinating for her to be in school with one of the Bougainvilleas or to have a friendly face from C.H. Postal around.
DESIRED CR: Violet is a lot less of a mess than her canon self, but she's still kind of a Sad, Weird Kid so I'd love for her to make some boisterous friends who'll help her have some proper fun. Some mentor types to help get her settled would be nice, too. Playing Violet in this kind of AU is very new to me so I'm honestly happy to wing it!

But more seriously: I've ballparked Violet's AU age to 18 for now, but I'm probably going to knock that down a year or two, depending on how things shake out. I just think her canon age of 14 is the most LOL ANIME thing ever and it's dumb and i wILL FIX IT

Lin: Is the school therapist and is SUPER there to help a sad child soldier process emotions
Kohaku: ALSO has superhuman senses/reflexes and might be like "cool someone else who can actually see the world the way I do." and I dont have a great sense about exactly how sheltered she is but Kohaku could maybe show her things like Playstations and synthpop and baking

Kohaku and Violet sounds like it has the potential to be SUPER INTERESTING though!! A big part of why Violet ends up going to Daybreak is so she can potentially meet other kids like her, so meeting someone who has more or less the same powers as her and can understand the way she sees the world would be REALLY COOL......

Kohaku sees the world as like
Imagine if you had a nice big HD TV with some sexy surround sound speakers for your home media set up, and then you found out all your friends have old CRT tvs and they're just like "Eh it's good enough" and you're like "HOW DO YOU LIVE" and that is Kohaku's entire life.
