Welcome to the March AU Planning Meme for Daybreak Academy! This post is intended to help prospective players plot their AU and figure out who their characters are in this setting and where they want to go, as well as work together with other players to plan future CR, build Secret Societies and Clubs, and generally determine where they want to start their characters, and where they want them to go. In addition to posting up the form, you are encouraged to tag around to other people's forms and discuss potential CR and plans with them. This post is an open forum for all prospective players to hash out interesting ideas for their characters ahead of joining the game.

PLAYER NAME: ten
CHARACTER NAME: Broly
CANON: Dragon Ball Super
BLURB: Broly is the LEGENDARY!! SUPERSAIYAN!!!, which primarily means in a universe where black haired guys who randomly become blonds are the strongest, he's stronger than them. And greenish tinged. Exiled in very early childhood for being stronger than the King's son, he grew up on a backwater hellhole with his dad and all the lack of socializing and normal education this provided up until a pair of Freeza's minions showed up and rescued them. Whereupon Freeza thought it'd be an amazingly fun romp to sic them on Vegeta and Goku, who are in theory the series main protagonists. It went about as well as it usually does for any antagonist up against the Good Guys, save he manages to actually survive it. Yay!

AU INFORMATION

CHARACTER AU NAME: Broly
STUDENT OR FACULTY?: Student!
CHARACTER BLURB: Gonna be de-aging him to a significant degree since in canon he's 40s. Now.. he isn't. This time, Broly's exiled for his father's sins, not his own - a natural wereape, Paragus didn't bother to look for a mate among his own kind or humanity and instead ... well, nobody's quite sure exactly, but when he returned with his ridiculously powerful mixed-breed son in tow, he and Broly were immediately exiled to the Outlands. Paragus unfortunately found it impossible to control his son, who while ordinarily pleasant had this bad habit of going into berserk rages and rampaging around during full moons, and made the mistake of asking a powerful angel for help. The angel obliged, choosing what was best for the boy over what his father wanted, giving Broly a small green lamb to control his temper (which was immediately named Baa) and completely and permanently sealing the vast majority of his incredible power so it couldn't harm him or others in the future.

At some point, Broly and his father (and Baa) are fetched from the Outlands by well-meaning people of Miscellaneous Sorts, and Broly's staggering lack of education alongside a useful knack for controlling light that popped up meant it's time for some schoolin'.

Still very much a work in progress.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: If you're playing a character who's in and out of the Outlands, or had been there for any length of time, it's not impossible they might have crossed paths! Or even dragged Broly and Dad home to good old Earth. Broly's a painfully innocent person, but friendly and quick to form attachments to people who just happen to be nice to him.
DESIRED CR: He's ... gonna need a lot of help with the basics of how to function in normal society. Happily, he's a VERY fast learner, but for a while..
OTHER: Happy to accept advice and so on for purposes of Fun and Mayhem. I am definitely playing from Super, not the original movie Broly, IN SPITE OF MY ICONS because I'm kind of lazy and haven't gotten around to changing them yet. Things seeking advice on: Whatever 'mom' is, it's why he's ridiculously tall and built like a brick sh*thouse. Dad's nowhere near his size and physical strength, after all. Preferably something that would also not ride comfortably alongside wereape instincts and behaviors to properly be the cause for why he has .. uh, aggression issues above and beyond what's normal.

Annnd yes the seal is divinely permanent. I like his personality not the universe-warping maximumest powers.

Oh god yes he's so fucking great now. I love everything they did with him (and never thought I'd be able to say that about Broly).

Anyway Gohan's player has done a bunch with wereapes and Saiyans and stuff that it'll be easier for him to explain than me.

Info I would absolutely love having in case I have to bother with Paragus ever, and of course relevant things for poor clueless Broly. Lemme go harass Gohan's player since they just commented. I'd headcanoned an AU that's rather remarkably close to what they actually chose to do, which was intensely personally satisfying. Hey now he's actually playable places!

I admit I was ASTONISHED that half the movie was exposition and plot. Makes me eager to see what they do with Cooler next!

Yeah, I saw surprised by the similarities! I bet our AUs will balance out really well together! I'll wait and see where you guys go before I throw out any ideas for pre-made CR between Broly and Videl. BUT at the very least, I'm game for CR if you app him. Videl knows a thing or two about handling sheltered boys who don't know how society works, although she's a lot meaner than Cheelai (sob).

Lmao, right?? This is more plot than like all three of the old Broly movies combined, and with none of Vegeta's existential crisis.

Vegeta has enough existential crises without it. I rather like how he's been settling down into dad-dom instead of mustbeatgokuaaaa.

OKAY SO FIRST OFF, if you're looking for new movie icons, I'm actually screencapping the movie as we speak. I can send the caps your way when I'm done, or I can link you to whatever icons I end up making, up to you.

SECOND, I set up this whole thing with a tribe of natural wereapes that come from the Outlands (Saiyans), that were subjugated by a daemonic overlord (Frieza), if you wanna use that! I haven't gone into a lot of details, just to leave it open for future castmates (the only thing I really set in stone is that Goku killed Frieza in the Outlands), but maybe Broly gets exiled from one side of the Outlands to the other or something. I also haven't actually CALLED this tribe Saiyans, mostly because as far as Gohan's concerned, the name's not very important. But if you wanna go in on calling them Saiyans, I'd be down!

I've been carefully acquiring screenshots off a dirty pirated copy I found (hey I paid for tickets twice it coutns right), but more is absolutely great, I'd be happy to accept anything you're willing to offer!

That still works out, the Outlands are approximately ginormous anyway, and doesn't really change the broad overview of things. I like the demon Freiza bit, since they were called ice demons for a while. It gels nicely. We can actually call them that if you'd like, though Paragus would be .. well no I imagine that /is/ one thing he would pass on by way of education, where they're from and what they are at least. But I can't imagine it's going to come up the way say, Vegeta would have it important. Happily Broly's so completely uninvolved with his own kind he might as well have been on earth the whole time.

I just need to figure out what the hell to cross him with to explain away his issues, size and power levels. 'He's a mutant' is just so unsatisfying when we already know from RL hybrids that occasionally instincts and behaviors clash and weird shit can result.

Oh, no, I'm talking direct caps. I grabbed a rip of the Japanese home media release. Bluray, I'm guessing.

Surprisingly, I actually didn't consider the ice demon thing when I decided to make Frieza into a daemon, so that's actually a happy coincidence. But yeah, I'm willing to go with that if you are! As for the Saiyan name, I'm perfectly happy with ignoring it so long as we don't need to use it. It could make for an interesting learning experience if Broly shares that with Gohan or something like that.

As for what to cross him with, uh... hmm... maybe we can pull from original Broly and say his mother's a daemon, since he keeps going on and on about how he's THE DEVIL HIMSELF etc etc.

Oo! I heard home release is supposed to have extra scenes, does it?

Out of curiosity, how do you have Gohan's powers working? While I'm intending to rather severely limit Broly's powerset to something less nuts, knowing how things 'should' work were he a proper representative of his species can't hurt.

If it does, I haven't found them. It's possible I downloaded a version that didn't include the scenes or something.

As for Gohan's power, I made him a natural wereape, mostly to mirror that Saiyan physiology, so that'd take care of strength, reflexes, endurance, stamina, etc. But I made his ki manipulation his Flame, so he's basically got everything except going Super Saiyan. He hasn't learned to fly though, since in this AU, I played it like he was the only one in his family who had this Flame, so no one else can fly (except maybe Piccolo because magic idk), and they didn't immediately think that he could be taught how to fly.

Hm! I'll be waiting for the english version either way when it releases, maybe it's just not the version people have gotten ahold of yet. Supposedly (ruuumor) there was a half hour or more of stuff cut for the theater release that was supposed to go in, and smooth out some of the really janky scene-cuts.

There's probably ways to pull off super saiyan. Maybe with jacking some things from Broly's rageform, since it uses the power of oozaru shape without actually .. shapechanging. I'm not sure what circumstances would require/allow Gohan to access alt-form without actually changing though.

Oh, I'm definitely buying the english version when it comes out, don't you worry. I just wanted to get some icons done, and I didn't consider looking into whether there were added scenes or not, since I mostly just started after the time skip, and screencapped from there. As far as after the timeskip, there was nothing new in what I downloaded.

Actually, it's funny you bring that up. While I wasn't planning on doing anything with Super Saiyan, since I can't imagine a scenario where DBZ characters aren't already OP without a transformation... I was thinking maybe Gohan could develop some hybrid form of his wereape transformation. BASICALLY, I was gonna see about giving him Super Saiyan 4 for laughs.

That was in no way an accusation that you might not. Just sayin' I intended to get it myself because I want it plus possible more stuff, and in english because I'm lazy and reading the movie means not paying attention to the art as much.

Does he have his tail now, or would that be part of the fun of fluffiest 4 form?

I think I went with no tail, since it's an AU and I wanted to make Gohan as unassuming as I could. He can still transform with the moon on a bad day or something, but since the lycanthrope AU for this game mentions that natural lycanthropes have an easier time controlling their transformations, I went with him having a decent handle on it and feeling pretty comfortable with his ape form... until he started going to school.

Also, his ape form isn't giant now, because I don't think the game could handle it. So please help yourself to the image of a big buff ape wearing a white long-sleeve shirt with a black vest over it.

in fairness a lot of places really aren't designed to handle fifty foot tall or bigger baboons.

I just love the idea of the oozaru form running down the hallway, all dressed up, yelling in a deep booming voice I'M LATE FOR CLASS

And attempting to squeeze into tiny college desks, or use tiny laptop keyboards with giant sausage fingers.

Tatsumaki is a blunt tsundere grump, but she has been nice-ish to people at times and would dial down the attitude with someone who's as innocent as Broly. She is a psychic, so she could be useful for helping him work on his mental stability?

How is she on teaching anger management? He's not completely insane as of Super, which is nice, but..

She can teach him to meditate and help him find appropriate outlets to work through his anger? She's had some anger issues herself that she's worked through over the years too, so she could also draw on her own experiences.

Also, I look forward to the day that she has one of her Seer visions around the big guy because she'll just start staring off into space and he can wonder WTF is happening to smol schoolmate.

Ah, meditation. A very effective method if one can pull off sitting there and doing nothing for long enough!

I suspect he's going to wonder wtf is going on for a whole LOT of people in this school..
